Last year, I visited a friend who recently moved to China. She was telling me all about the new technology that was sweeping her city and my interest was piqued. She was talking about the silicon sex dolls, which were becoming increasingly popular among people. I thought the concept was creepy but fascinating at the same time. So, of course, I decided to take a look for myself.
The first thing that struck me was the sheer size of the dolls. They were large and intimidating. The material used was also a bit off-putting. It was a kind of a cold, artificial silicone that just felt wrong. Although these sex toys were designed to look real, there was something inherently wrong about them.
In addition to being aesthetically unappealing, these sex dolls also weighed heavily. My friend had to take two people to help her move one from one room to another. I couldn’t help but wonder what the creators were thinking when they made these things so completely overwhelming.
The idea behind silicon sex dolls is that people should be able to experience human contact without engaging in physical sex. Of course, I understand why people would want these kinds of dolls, but I can’t help but feel like it’s taking us down the wrong path. There is something about these things that just seem wrong to me.
What’s more, there is the inevitable issue of where these kinds of life-like dolls might go when their owners have had enough of them. Are they just left to take up space in landfills? Besides the environmental issues, I don’t understand why people would opt for such a heavy, expensive and ultimately pointless purchase.
So, while I understand the appeal of the silicon sex dolls, I can’t help but feel a bit uncomfortable about them. They’re heavy, awkward and ultimately just plain wrong. I’d much rather people invested in more meaningful relationships with real human beings rather than with manufactured items.
